This is incredibly tragic, yet moving. I expected more at the end though… I still felt a heavy and unresolved feeling in my chest when the credits appeared.
What’s the message? Will you only receive “love” once you provide something of value to the person giving that love?
Just saw this film tonight and it instantly has become one of my most favorite movies of all time. I’m surprised it got such poor reviews.
Individual performances are what made this one special. Daniel Day Lewis and Marion Cotillard were incredible. Very few films have made me want to applaud after seeing them – and this is one (and there was applause in the theater on a quiet Wednesday evening). After viewing – I immediately wanted to watch it again. Give it time, the beginning is a little slow, but wow. I had no idea of the plot – just remembered seeing the trailer long ago and wanting to check it out. It moved me and I happened to see it at the best possible time in my life. May not be for those who really can’t stand musicals though… It IS definitely for those who can relate to the storyline in some way.
Marion Cotillard Clip:
This woman needs to get an award for her role… The way she acts with her eyes.
“Thank you for reminding me I am not special. You don’t even see what you do – do you? Even the moments I think are ours is just …You…working to get what you want.”
At night sometimes I just lay here and grind my teeth feeling this powerful intense surge of hateness. But I know it’s not hate — it is this mad feverish form of love disguised as hate. It’s much too angry and much too big to feel like gentle, innocent, soft vulnerable love. But that’s what it is, underneath it all…
“You know that when I hate you, it is because I love you to a point of passion that unhinges my soul.”
I have no delusions of grandeur, no dreams of becoming famous or well-known. My insomnia keeps me busy--both a curse and a blessing. I express my thoughts best through written form and music. I am completely obsessed with music and welcome you to share in that obsession with me. Enjoy.
