Music Spotlight: Rachael Yamagata; Elephants

Not much explanation is necessary… I just love this.

If the hawks in the trees need the dead, if you’re living you don’t stand a chance. For a time though you share the same bed. There are two ends to this dance.

You can flee with your wounds just in time, or lie there as [she] feeds,
watching yourself ripped to shreds and laughing as you bleed.

So for those of you falling in love, keep it kind, keep it good, keep it right.
Throw yourself in the midst of danger, but keep one eye open at night…

Music Spotlight: Porcupine Tree

I should start logging the amount of time I spend dedicated to searching this vast endless net ocean for new music (and by new, I mean new to me). Let’s just say… it’s many hours. If I was more organized and dedicated, I could easily turn this into a semi-music blog, but eh… So for the time being I will sporadically post my newest findings.

One way I go about finding my latest music obsessions is by browsing the song history of Myspace users who like the same music as I. This can lead me to friends of friends….and that is how I found this song.

I won’t even get into how I then begin to make up stories in my head about why their song choices are as such. I create the dynamics of their romantic relationships through the music.  I get sad for them, and want to sometimes write them a quick note saying, “I’ve been there…I understand”…but they might just think I am a creepy stalker with no life so I refrain.

Back to the song:

It’s Porcupine Tree; Half Light and it is equal parts achingly beautiful and sad.

Enjoy…

Saddest Video. Ever.

I love Sigur Ros. I always say–if there was a Heaven– it would probably sound like this (at least some of the time).

Music.

Music is a passion of mine. Not that I can play any instrument or sing or anything-but I am an avid listener and appreciator of it.

A friend of mine brought a website to my attention a few months ago: blogmusik.net. It’s pretty good for checking out music; listening before buying, (or downloading). Currently I’m listening to lots of Cat Power and Sigur Ros. Sometimes calming, sometimes depressing, but always therapeutic. I hope when/if I go to “heaven” it’ll sound just like that.

Update.

I finally got around to transfering the songs to my new mp3 player and I figured everything out and created playlists with ease. I just thought you’d like to know. I also didn’t go out tonight because after cleaning my room, as I had suspected–I became exhausted. Oh well.

Ring. Ring

I am at work now and the phone just rang and nobody picked it up. Me and the new “sales manager” (who has no one to manage but himself) play mental games with one another. Whoever answers the phone in the absence of our receptionist [read: admin assistant/office manager] must be the less important person. I’m not budging. The mental mind game we both play–may very well be my own creation but my intuition is usually fairly accurate.

In any case-I have the luxury of being too busy with projects to afford long winded conversations. I write this while simultaneously checking progress and leaving comments. I found -I work better with distractions–or at least that is what I tell myself.

It’s quiet -I need to play music but the problem is–I purchased a new mp3 player and I was so spoiled with the drag and drop method of my old one that figuring out how to sync all my music and organize playlists with WMP11 is proving more difficult than I could ever have imagined! I am supposed to just start a program and figure it out in 5 minutes like everything else–so I don’t know what my problem is. Maybe I’ll try again tonight. I only gave it a-go once so far after all.

I have a macbook which I love, but I am anti-ipod –so that explains the decision to stick with iriver incase anybody was wondering.
Oh, so back to the music issue. My current track listing is pathetic–and I was only able to load what I could before the older player ran out of battery–so in between Bjork and Cat Power– I hear Celine Dion’s O Holy Night. It’s especially embarrassing if I leave to go to the bathroom and I come back with Christmas music blasting when we haven’t even reached Halloween yet.

Welcome!

I have no delusions of grandueur, no dreams of becoming famous or well-known. My insomnia keeps me busy--both a curse and a blessing. I enjoy writing and hope you enjoy reading.
